Experts Reveal Underground LHD Loaders

Aug. 22, 2025

Experts point out that maintaining an underground LHD loader is far from a simple "wipe-down and repair"; it is a complete system integrated before, during, and after operation. Its core philosophy can be summarised as: "Daily upkeep is the foundation, scheduled maintenance is key, and specialised.
Before starting work daily, "observation, listening, questioning, and palpation are essential. The operator is the first person responsible for the equipment. Before starting each day, a walk-around inspection is mandatory. This includes checking for under-inflated or worn tyres, inspecting structures for cracks or fluid leaks, and testing the responsiveness of braking, steering, and lighting systems. After starting, idling for a short period to listen for unusual noises from the engine or transmission is crucial. This acts like a doctor's "auscultation," enabling the earliest detection of potential faults.
Scheduled maintenance: "Following the rules" is an ironclad principle. Strictly adhering to the maintenance intervals stipulated by the equipment manufacturer is the cornerstone of long equipment life. This includes, but is not limited to: timely replacement of engine oil and filters; cleaning or replacing air filters and hydraulic oil filters, which is vital for equipment operating in dusty conditions; and regularly checking and tightening all bolt connections, as well as inspecting hydraulic hose ageing and wear to prevent problems before they occur.
Specialised in-depth maintenance: "Treating pre-disease"  demonstrates true skill. After a certain number of operating hours, more thorough specialised maintenance must be performed. Examples include thoroughly cleaning the radiator to prevent engine overheating caused by dust clogging; applying grease to key areas like drive shafts and articulation bearings to ensure full lubrication; and inspecting electrical wiring to prevent short circuits or poor connections caused by dampness and vibration.
Industry experts emphasise: "The investment in preventative maintenance is far lower than the production losses and high repair costs resulting from unexpected downtime. Establishing detailed equipment maintenance records and utilising digital management systems to track every maintenance milestone represents the leap from 'reactive repair' to 'proactive health management'."
