FKWJ-6 Underground Diesel LHD Loader Boosts Efficient Ore Haulage for Deep Mines
Oct. 14, 2026
As underground mining activities worldwide keep advancing toward deeper ore bodies, mines are confronted with growing challenges including confined tunnel sections, harder rock formations, heavy dust accumulation and limited underground ventilation. The reliability, continuous working capacity and safety design of underground loading and haulage equipment have become core factors that restrict mine output, operational expenditure and on-site personnel protection. In hard-rock metal mines and non-metallic mines, traditional loaders often suffer insufficient breakout force, frame fatigue cracking, overheating and leakage of hydraulic components, narrow maintenance space and prolonged downtime. These issues directly slow down mucking efficiency and raise long-term maintenance costs for mine operators. The FKWJ-6 diesel underground loader, also widely known as LHD scooptram in mining industry, is a primary mucking machine specially developed for medium and large deep hard-rock mines. Our R&D team carried out in-depth field investigations at underground mine sites across multiple countries worldwide, collecting real operational feedback covering varied tunnel profiles, rock hardness, haulage distances and emission regulations. Combined with finite element structural analysis, dynamic hydraulic loop simulation and full-load durability prototype testing, we carried out comprehensive upgrades on frame structure, powertrain, hydraulic circuit, safety protection and service layout. It can reliably run under harsh underground conditions featured by heavy impact, severe abrasion, humid dusty atmosphere and frequent bumpy travelling.
The whole machine adopts articulated frame welded with thick high-strength alloy steel. Large heavy-duty spherical plain bearings are fitted at articulation joints. Reinforcement treatment is applied on stress-concentrated zones during bucket loading and steering travel, effectively absorbing massive impact loads generated while digging into ore piles. This prevents frame deformation and weld cracking under cyclic heavy loads and greatly extends the service life of structural components. It is equipped with an enlarged thickened wear-resistant bucket. The bucket liner is made of high-hardness wear-resistant material, and the tooth profile is optimized to reduce digging resistance. It delivers powerful breakout and lifting force with substantial payload per cycle. For a fixed daily ore target, fewer shuttle trips are required and waiting time at working faces is reduced, steadily speeding up mucking progress. It performs especially well for long-distance horizontal haulage and concentrated ore removal after blasting at stopes.
The powertrain is equipped with proven VOLVO industrial diesel engine rated at 256kW, with abundant power reserve and outstanding low-speed high-torque performance. It maintains stable torque output under heavy climbing and full-bucket digging without obvious power drop or excessive black smoke. Multiple emission versions are available to comply with environmental regulations in different regions. Optional complete exhaust aftertreatment packages including DOC, DPF and SCR can purify exhaust pollutants efficiently, lower concentration of hazardous gas inside tunnels, ease the burden of underground ventilation systems and improve working conditions for operators. It meets emission access requirements for mines in Europe, Australia, South Africa, Southeast Asia and other global markets. The engine and transmission system are fully integrated and calibrated to deliver smooth power transmission and excellent fuel efficiency, cutting long-term fuel expenditure for continuous mining operations.
The hydraulic system is built on mature load-sensing control logic. Core hydraulic components are sourced from widely recognized brands with sufficient global supply chains. Flow distribution logic is fine-tuned exclusively for underground mining scenarios. Lifting, curling, dumping, steering and travelling hydraulic movements respond rapidly with smooth transition and minimal mechanical jerk. It delivers remarkable breakout force during digging cycles. This design guarantees high productivity during continuous heavy-duty cycles, while mitigating hydraulic shock that damages pipelines, seals, pumps and valves, and reduces the risk of oil leakage. The travelling driveline is matched with dedicated underground heavy-duty transmission and drive axles. Axle housings, half shafts and wheel reduction assemblies are engineered for persistent underground overload. It delivers excellent impact resistance and stable power transmission on crushed rock roads and frequent slope start-stop conditions, with strong anti-slip performance to cut power loss and abnormal tire wear caused by spinning. The powertrain is specially tuned for speed control on grades and poor floor conditions, delivering consistent power output across the full speed range.
Safety standards run through the whole development cycle of FKWJ-6, forming a dual protection system integrating active safety and passive safety. It is fitted with high-capacity wet brake system that provides sufficient braking torque and rapid response, holding stable speed control during long downhill haulage and eliminating runaway risks. Multiple interlock protections including overload cutoff, hydraulic pressure protection, engine overheat protection and low oil pressure protection are embedded. An operator presence system prevents uncontrolled machine movement to protect both operator and equipment once the operator leaves the control position. The system automatically limits power output once abnormal status is detected to prevent secondary component damage. The operator cabin adopts integrated ROPS & FOPS structure against falling rocks and rollover, fully enclosed sound insulation and shock absorption design, explosion-proof glass with large window openings for superior visibility. Handrails on both sides support three-point safe access to the cabin, paired with adjustable suspension seat. The sight line is verified by simulation to minimize blind spots. Full sets of audible-visual warning lamps, reverse alarm and emergency stop buttons are installed to remind surrounding underground personnel in time, protecting operators and adjacent mining equipment comprehensively.
With great focus on maintainability, the FKWJ-6 is arranged in modular integration layout. Engine, hydraulic pump groups, valve blocks, filter elements and oil testing points are centrally arranged with wide access space for servicing. Daily inspection, fluid replacement, filter service and worn part replacement can be finished without massive disassembly of auxiliary assemblies. All lubrication points are clearly marked with standardized maintenance procedures to lower the technical threshold for on-site service technicians. Consumables such as seals, hoses, filters and bearings are designed with good interchangeability, easing spare part stocking pressure and shortening procurement lead time. This drastically cuts unexpected downtime and supports non-stop ore production for mines.
This loader fits a wide range of underground mining methods. It can handle heavy loading and haulage tasks reliably for stope mucking in sublevel caving, open stoping and cut-and-fill mines, as well as tunnel muck removal, ore bin feeding transfer and underground waste rock transportation. High customization is supported besides emission variants. Bucket capacity, tire specification and control system can be adjusted according to client’s tunnel dimension, ore specific gravity and hauling distance. Optional upgrades include electric joystick control, on-board video monitoring, underground wireless data collection, temperature & pressure monitoring and centralized automatic lubrication system to satisfy intelligent transformation demands of modern mines.
From hard-rock gold mines in Africa and copper mines in South America to nickel mines in Southeast Asia and deep metal mines domestically, FKWJ-6 is developed with full consideration of differentiated global mining conditions, local spare part availability and maintenance capacity. Centered on high availability, low failure rate and service-friendly design, it delivers a cost-effective and stable integrated underground loading and hauling solution for mining clients worldwide. It helps mine operators lift production steadily and control total life-cycle operational cost.
